13th edition of NUMAP-FOAM Summer School was held 20-31 August 2018 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA). The Summer School is dedicated to improving the knowledge and skills of working with OpenFOAM, an open source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) toolbox. The employees of the Department are prominent developers of OpenFOAM, led by one of the original developers, prof. Hrvoje Jasak.
Traditionally, the staff met at the Cowboy ranch in Vukomerić Hills to celebrate the past academic year and to commemorate the Department Day.

The Committee for the Rector’s Award has selected 172 student projects in the academic year 2017/2018. The award ceremony was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business, in the presence of the Rector of the University of Zagreb, professor Damir Boras, prorectors, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, professor Zvonimir Guzović, and others.
3rd South East Europe SDEWES conference was held 30 June – 4 July, 2018 in the beautiful city of Novi Sad, Serbia and it has brought together 190 scientists, researchers, and experts in the field of sustainable development from around 30 countries.

Last week, as a part of the field lectures, students of energy engineering have visited Plomin power plant, preparation system of drinking water in Ponikve at island Krk, recycling center Treskavac and hydropower plant Vinodol.
The 35th annual formal assembly of the Croatian Academy of Engineering was held on May 21st 2018 in the Old city hall in Zagreb. The assembly gathered the members of the Academy as well as honoured guests from the fields of science, culture, economy and state.

During the past week, members and students of the Department have participated at the 9th Zagreb Energy Week. The objective of the Energy Week is to develop consciousness and include the citizens of Zagreb into the battle against climate change.
Professor Hrvoje Jasak gave an invited presentation at the KAUST Research Conference: Combustion in Extreme Conditions which was held March 5-8 2018 at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. The conference is organised by Clean Combustion Research Center at KAUST.
Members of SDEWES traveled to Serbia last week in a Tesla to promote the next edition of the SDEWES series of conferences which will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia from 30th June to 3rd July 2018.
